Chris Pratt is a member of the Republican party

Hollywood is known for its almost overwhelmingly liberal views. Many of its biggest power players, like George and Amal Clooney, are known for spending significant amounts of time with important Democratic politicians.

Others, most notably Jane Fonda but also Jon Stewart and Morgan Freeman, are known as being activists for liberal-tending causes.

However, not everyone in Tinseltown is the same. There are some actors with views that are more right-leaning. Sometimes, when this happens, it seems to surprise just about everyone. That was the case recently, as fans are realizing that beloved actor Chris Pratt is a strongly right-leaning Republican.

He caused a stir by wearing a T-shirt reflecting conservative values

Although fans of Chris Pratt should have been aware of his views, many were taken aback when the actor was recently seen wearing a T-shirt that placed the Gadsden Flag front and center.

The image includes a coiled snake with the words “Don’t Tread On Me” on top of an image with the stars and stripes. It is a flag, with roots in the Colonies during the Revolutionary War, that is favored by some highly-conservative individuals.

While lots of his fans adored his appearance in “Jurassic World” and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the photo isn’t sitting well with them in general. The image itself caused a stir when writer Hunter Harris tweeted it to her followers.

While lots of his fans adored his appearances in “Jurassic World” and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the photo isn’t sitting well with them.

Ultimately, it was liked more than 6,000 times and retweeted more than 830 times. Commenters on the feed appear to be somewhat divided between being critical of the actor for wearing a shirt they believe reflects racist values and showing admiration. Several people asked where they could get a similar shirt.

He’s a strong supporter of conservative Christian values

At this point, it is safe to say that fans are beginning to understand the extent to which the actor aligns with conservative values. He is vocal about his Christian values, too.

The actor is known as a prominent member of Hillsong Church and he enthusiastically praised God during his acceptance speech at the Teen Choice Awards. He even took his praise a step further by encouraging the audience to follow his lead and praise God, too.

In addition, he’s readily talked about his beliefs in other ways. For example, he referenced a Biblical quote from the Psalms when talking about his star on the Hollywood walk fo fame.

He was also photographed mounting a cross on his farm in Washington and when he tweeted about his engagement, he used the words “proud to live boldly in faith with you.”

He’s married into a strong, conservative family — the Schwarzeneggers

Another indicator of Pratt’s conservative values is his choice for a partner. He recently married the daughter of well-known Republican and former California Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger. While they were dating, they were spotted enjoying time with the former Governor and fellow Hollywood headliner.

During outings, everyone appeared happy to spend time together. The couple married in the summer of 2019 and have been out and about together often since then. It’s reasonable to assume that his chats with her dad still happen, too.

He’s shown  a series of other conservative beliefs

Pratt has also shown himself to be a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. As far back as 2014, he talked to a reporter at Esquire Magazine about his stance on gun control.

He mentioned that he has an arsenal with approximately 30 to 40 guns in it. He said he wanted to be sure that if his wife had a problem with someone, she’d be able to defend herself.

In addition, Pratt is an avid hunter and has openly talked about how he manages livestock on his Washington farm. He was matter-of-fact about the fate of some of the lambs he raises, noting that they live some of the happiest lives possible until one day they “wake up dead.”

The next day, he posted a photo with pieces of lamb meat on his Instagram story. This didn’t bother some people but was seen as highly insensitive by others who view animals in a different way.

Look at all this glorious food! We will eat off him for a month. His wool is becoming yarn as we speak. He lived a very good life. He was groomed and shorn, his hooves medicated, de wormed, no antibiotics necessary. Surrounded by laughing loving humans, including children to whom they provided such joy. Nuzzled, pet and loved every day. No stressful travel to his final destination. Trauma Free. Just a touch of a usda certified wand to his head and he goes to sleep. The other sheep don’t even notice. It’s like unplugging a tv. Then Wocka my butcher works his magic. Right now the meat is for friends, family and gifts. Soon though it may be available to my followers as we test recipes and open up to market. Gotta get some things dialed in first. I have found a new passion to add to my many others. #farmlife and jack loves it! You’ll know where to sprinkle my ashes. I’ll tell you that.

Lastly, the actor has also talked about wanting to help close the gap in politics and to help increase the visibility of blue-collar roles in Hollywood. He made a remark to this effect in 2017, though immediately after tried to walk back the remark after some negative fan reactions.

His Twitter feed included the remarks, “That was actually a pretty stupid thing to say. There are actually a ton of blue-collar roles in Hollywood movies.”

At the same time as he dealt with the backlash over his comments about blue-collar roles in movies, Chris noted how polarized Americans are becoming. He noted that “I feel like there’s common ground out there that we miss because we focus on the things that separate us. You’re either a red state or a blue state, on the left or on the right.”

Pratt indicated a desire to bridge that divide and that his life represents both those areas. It would seem that this is a sentiment most people can get on board with.

Fan reactions to Pratt’s right-leaning views

Sure, there’s the immediate reaction to spotting him in the T-shirt and the backlash about his comments on blue-collar roles. However, recent reactions are going beyond that.

How far beyond? An entire article is calling Pratt the “Worst Chris” out of a group of other famous actors named Chris that include fellow Marvel actors Chris Helmsworth and Chris Evans, as well as actor Chris Pine. The article goes on to suggest that Chris Pratt be kicked out of the “Chris Club” and replaced with someone else.

Some don’t believe he deserves all the criticism

As fans are being relatively harsh with the actor, there’s a visible contingent of people who just don’t believe he deserves the kind of bashing that he’s been getting.

An article in the New York Post, written by a person who applauds his faith, even went so far as to ask the question about whether the backlash against him is truly warranted and appeared to take the stand that things were getting out of hand.

The author indicated that they viewed Pratt as a humble man and asked that while you may hate his stances, don’t hate him.

Others seem to believe that people need to deal with the actor’s strong showing of his beliefs and to simply leave him alone. They also seem amused that he’s generating such a strong reaction in liberals.

He’s not the only Hollywood conservative

Old Hollywood stalwart Pat Boone…compared Hollywood to high school, with multiple cliques.

While, understandably, many conservatives in Hollywood don’t make their beliefs readily known, a few have braved the onslaught to declare their views. These include comedians Tim Allen and Roseanne Barr, as well as James Woods and Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood.

There have been rumors that some of these celebrities have also had to sacrifice for being so open about their own beliefs. In 2018, Fox News ran a story about how many who have conservative values have learned to keep quiet so as to avoid a backlash.

The article featured extensive quotes from old Hollywood stalwart Pat Boone. He compared Hollywood to high school, with multiple cliques.

Should Pratt be more careful or just be himself?

Many who have heard Pratt’s comments believe that he simply needs to watch his words more carefully. Think before he speaks. They may find his attitude charming and a bit funny, but his comments are also careless and don’t fully represent some of his values that may be more balanced.

Others may believe that Pratt should be fully and unapologetically himself. Likely, the answer lies between the two views. Ultimately, it will be up to Pratt to decide how he is going to proceed and to share those with the public.

If he continues, public reaction will likely continue as it has, controversy and all.
