It’s fast, it’s easy, and the sky is the limit!

Choosing to sell t-shirts online is a great way to make money. Here are just a few perks:

No out-of-pocket costs with most platforms

With most print-on-demand services, you pay nothing out-of-pocket. Instead, the platform takes a percentage of your sale or a flat fee. The rest is your profit.

You get the chance to be creative

Everyone needs a creative outlet. Designing t-shirts means you get the opportunity to put your quirky drawings and motivational sayings on products. Wouldn’t it be fun to walk in the mall and see someone wearing a shirt you designed?

No inventory to deal with

Unlike direct sales, you have no product to deal with. You do not have to give up closet space to store your inventory, and you do not have to worry about delivering it.

You can create as many designs as you want

Some jobs you start– especially those that have start-up costs– mean you have to wait to make a profit before you can try your next idea. If you sell t-shirts online, you can have multiple designs available at once.

It can put some extra cash in your pocket

Everything you get is profit, so you can use it for a fun night out, to save for a vacation or a big purchase, or whatever you choose. Some people make pocket change while others have made over $100,000. What could you do with that kind of cash?

Of course, success is never guaranteed, but there are some things you can do to improve your chances.

Determine your goals

You might want to sell t-shirts online for fun, extra cash, or for a full-time income– all of which are fine. However, you do need to know what your goals are, so you know what moves to make and how much time you should plan to invest.

Advertise

Unless this will be a hobby for you, you will need to spread the word about your designs. This can be as simple as getting on your personal social media accounts and saying, “Hey, guys! Check out what I made!”

You might also start a business page on Facebook where you share the individual designs. Some people go as far as to purchase advertising on social media and Google. How far you choose to take it depends on your personal choices.

Consider opening your own storefront

The platforms you choose to design your t-shirts will display your designs. This is a great thing, but if you really want to turn it into a business or take your advertising farther, you might want to take an additional step.

Opening your own online storefront, like on Shopify, gets your designs in front of more people. You might also consider starting a website or blog to link to your t-shirts. The more exposure you get, the better.

You will need to spread the word about your designs

Shopify does charge a monthly fee, though, so consider this step carefully. Though it may fluctuate, that fee is somewhere around $30, which is not bad if you are making money but not worth it if you do not plan on selling enough shirts to cover the fee.

Unless you plan on selling advertising space, you can start a website for free through Wix or WordPress. Share pictures of your designs and link them back to the platform you are using.

If you have decided to make the move, be sure to check out multiple platforms. You might find it beneficial, especially in the beginning, to have designs on a few platforms. This way, you can see which ones will be the easiest to use for your personal goals.
